Your First Sweater

This class is for first time sweater knitter who wants to learn one piece (in the round) sweater knitting. We have supplied you with some beginner patterns below. These sweaters can be easily adjusted to have the sleeve and body length of your choice, to fit your body's unique proportions. If you choose you can knit a sweater for someone else: baby-adult sizes are available in the last 2 sweaters on the list below.

This class is held once a month. You can join any time, you do not need to take this workshop in any particular order or time frame: you will sign up for each class separately and work at your own pace.

The Pattern

You can choose from the following patterns: (you will need to purchase the pattern yourself before class, except in the case of Anniversary Top, which is free in the shop).

• Anniversary Top (striped tee shown, can be knit with either short or long sleeves, pattern available in shop)
  
• Novice Cardigan Chunky (shown in brown)
• Felix Cardigan (shown in purple)
• Simple Sweater - available in baby-adult sizes (shown in grey)
• Classic Cardigan - available in baby-adult sizes (shown in orange/purple))

Materials: Yarn- depending on which pattern you choose we will assist you in choosing the correct yarn and quantity in the shop *at least 3 days before class begins*, knitting needles required to get gauge (we can help with this too when you buy your yarn) needles, scissors, darning needle, stitch markers, tape measure. Pen and paper is always useful to write down notes. *Don’t choose dark colored yarn for your first sweater.

Please buy your sweater materials at Cast Away. Be sure to show up to class on time with materials ready and swatch made if required (first session only).

Experience Needed: You should already have these basic skills: knit, purl, increase, decrease, knitting in the round, bind off. 

Homework: Knit a gauge swatch- we can assist with instructions when you buy your yarn.

Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel or reschedule we require at least 24 hours notice *per cancelled seat to give you store credit or a refund. We can not give you a refund or store credit with less than 24 hours notice per cancelled seat, no exceptions.
