Learn to Mend Knits - Woven Darning

Learn to mend your favorite knits and extend their lifespan! This class will cover the mending technique of woven darning. You will learn the basic techniques of an integrated woven darn using two contrasting colors on a knit swatch. 

Materials: Please bring a 4" or 5" embroidery hoop, scissors and a 6.5 x 6.5" knit swatch (see homework section for details on how to knit a swatch). If you would like to bring a knit garment or item to mend instead of a knitted swatch, feel free to do so, however keep in mind that your first try will not likely be the look you desire, so don’t bring anything too precious. We also have a few swatches we can lend out for this class so don’t worry if you aren’t able to knit a swatch!

Experience Needed: Some experience with knitting or crochet/working in fiber arts is recommended. 

What you'll learn: Students will learn how to mend a hole in a knit material using the woven darning technique. 

Homework: Please complete and bring a 6.5 x 6.5" knit swatch with you to class. Use DK weight yarn and US 6 (4mm) needles to knit your swatch. If you would like written instructions for the swatch please email maia.s.artist@gmail.com
