Felt a "Cracked Mud" Potholder
Felt a "Cracked Mud" Potholder
Join Nancy Rosenthal for this introductory class into the magical world of creating felt with a unique texture!
In this fun and playful workshop you will get to choose your own colors of merino wool roving to create your multilayered, textured potholder using warm soapy water, bubble wrap, and your own 2 hands! You will learn how to lay out fine layers of your selected wool, how to make a prefelt, the cracked mud technique using painter’s tape to create cracks, the process of fulling, and how to get neat edges. Nancy will show you a variety of completed samples she's made from a simple flat felted square and examples of other potential creations from her collection of felting explorations over the years.
Once you’ve learned this surface technique, you’ll be able to apply it to endless felted surfaces – from purses to pillows to 3-D vessels. If you’ve taken the 3-D Vessels Class, you’ll be all set to create new, stunning surface designs. This workshop is a great primer to get you started into the wondrous art of feltmaking and we think you will be inspired to take further workshops with her to continue your felting journey!
Nancy owns and operates Fiat Luxe and is the creator and maker of the felt soaps and felted soap kits we sell here at Cast Away.
