Carson Demers Workshop - Will This Yarn Hurt My Hands?

Carson is a life-long crafter, and a physical therapist who specialized in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and ergonomics. He literally wrote the book (and published it too!) about ergonomics and knitting. Knitting Comfortably: The Ergonomics of Handknitting is now in its 6^th printing and available on his website. His experience in fiber arts combine with his professional expertise in physical therapy and ergonomics to create a unique skill set that he eagerly shares with the fiber community. He teaches throughout the US and internationally and is a frequent contributor to several fiber and craft related publications. Carson’s passion is to keep you working efficiently and comfortably because no one wants to be forced to retire from their craft due to injury or discomfort.

The Workshop: 

Carson teaches the ergonomics and techniques of knitting and spinning throughout the US and internationally.

Would you like to make any yarn comfortable to work with? Would you like to know how to choose a yarn substitute and to get the same result as the original yarn? Then this is the class for you! You’ll learn ways to take objective measurements that will inform you how a yarn will behave in your hands. You’ll learn about fiber characteristics and yarn construction to determine how comfortable a yarn will be to work with; and you’ll learn how to tame a difficult yarn into one that is comfortable for you to work with. All this new information will help you select the right hook or needle to make your project. Students who take this class leave saying, “I didn’t know that I didn’t know that!” But every fiber enthusiast needs to know all about their materials. Come learn about them! Yarn will be provided.

Skill Level: All levels of experience. Must be able to independently cast on (any method), and perform knit and purl stitch. This is not a ‘how to knit’ class.

Materials: Students need to bring needles sizes US 4, US 7, US 9 or 10 (3 different sizes).
