Surprise Jacket KAL

Surprise Jacket KAL

Join us for a Knit Along (KAL)! Elizabeth Zimmermann’s iconic Baby Surprise Jacket has become near legendary since its conception in 1968. The jacket is knitted back and forth in Garter stitch, then cleverly folded and completed by weaving the shoulder seams. It's called a surprise because the whole time you are knitting it seems impossible that this oddly shaped thing will become anything resembling a sweater- but when you are done, one simple fold and seam, and it surprisingly does!

What: What is a Knit Along? In the knitting world it's known as a KAL, and it's when many people are knitting the same pattern at the same time, either virtually or in person. This KAL will be in person at Cast Away Yarn Shop.

Is This a Class? A KAL is not a class, BUT we are offering 1 hour of help to those who need it. At each KAL meet-up Eunyoung will be available from 5:00-6:00 to give instruction. The fee for this 1 hour lesson is $20. If you feel confident in your skills and are fine learning from your neighbor, there is no fee to join this KAL! (Please buy your supplies at Cast Away though!)

When: 8 Wednesdays, 5:00 - 7:00 pm, from January 8th to February 26.

Dates: Every Wednesday from 5-7pm

Materials: Please buy your KAL materials at Cast Away. Be sure to get ready for the KAL before you come.

Yarn: yarn of your choice and appropriate needle. This particular jacket is based on your own gauge. If you're not sure then start with worsted weight yarn.

Pattern: This pattern is not available digitally. It has been published in many print publications however, and it's possible that you already own this pattern! If you click HERE it will take you to the Ravelry link, where they list the publications it's been printed in, as well as a couple of links where you can order a print copy of the pattern. *If you buy/have your own copy of the book/pattern, we will provide a separate row by row calculation worksheet, so there is no need to purchase this extra item.

Experience Needed: You should already know how to knit, purl and make a gauge swatch.

Instructor/KAL Coordinator: Eunyoung (eunyoungknitter2004@gmail.com)
