Learn to Embroider on Knits

Learn to embroider on knit or crochet items! This class will cover basic embroidery techniques and tricks for applying them to knits. You will learn four basic embroidery stitches to decorate and embellish your favorite knits, including back stitch, satin stitch, french knot and lazy daisy stitch.  

Materials: Please bring a 5" embroidery hoop, scissors and a 6.5 x 6.5" knit or crochet swatch (see homework section for details). You may also bring a knit or crochet garment made with DK or finer weight yarn that has average tension (not loose) if you prefer to embroider on your own garment instead of a swatch. All other materials will be provided.

Experience Needed: Some experience with embroidery is recommended. 

What you'll learn: Students will learn how to embroider on knit or crochet items using five different embroidery stitch techniques.  

Homework: Please complete and bring a 6.5 x 6.5" knit or crochet swatch with you to class or your own knit/crochet garment. You may use fingering, sport or DK weight yarn to make the swatch. Use the corresponding needle or hook size and be sure your tension is average or tight (not loose). If you would like written instructions for the swatch please email maia.spillman@gmail.com
