Learn the basics of colorwork- also known as stranded knitting or fair isle- in this fun class knitting a "Doodle Cowl". In this 3 hour class you will learn how to read a chart, knit stranded properly, how to keep track of where you are, tensioning, etc... This is a great first (or second or third!) intro into stranded knitting.
Materials: DK weight yarn in many colors- come in and we'll help you choose colors for your design! 16" circular size US 5 needles, stitch markers, scissors.
Experience Needed: Knit, purl, cast on, bind off
What you’ll learn: Stranded knitting, chart reading
Homework: There are 2 versions of this cowl: "Standard" and "Infinity" (the winter themed image here shows what infinity looks like, the rest are the standard style).
- Standard Cowl Homework: CO 120 (or 144 or 168 depending on what size you want see the PATTERN for more details about sizes), join & place marker and work 1 x 1 ribbing for 1.5", then knit 1 round in MC, placing a marker every 24 stitches.
- Infinity Cowl Homework: Using waste yarn provisionally cast on 120 in MC , join & place marker and knit 1 round in MC, placing a marker every 24 stitches.
